The Pulsating Epic of a Swimming Pool

This is a true story of the construction of my swimming pool. Except for most of it, where I lie and exaggerate.

Although the book was written in France any mentions of President Sarkosy have been cut, only David Cameron remains, for dramatic effect.

All names in this story have been changed to protect the guilty, which means everyone.

My thanks to the French National Health Service for the anti-depressants, sleeping pills and crutches used throughout this narrative.

I should also like to thank my neighbors for putting up with all the noise and upsets. But I can’t, the bastards never stopped whining and now do not speak to me.

"El mundo cuando sueña es un libro de poemas escrito en una época particularmente prosaica, una obra de poesía llegada a un mundo que cada vez le dedica menos atención a la literatura lírica. Por esta razón, sus versos, que beben de la tradición onírica y surrealista de las mejores letras de las vanguardias en castellano, tienen sin embargo unas aspiraciones muy diversas. Son poemas escritos para ser leídos en voz alta o, si se quiere, recitados; pero recitados también en el interior de cada uno, es cada lector el que debe asumir la responsabilidad de hacer auténtica la poesía, no entendiendo, ni comprendiendo, sino haciéndola en efecto suya, apropiándose de ella. Poemas, por tanto, escritos para enfrentarse a ellos, y solamente poemas en cuanto promotores de ese enfrentamiento, enemigos de un vano preciosismo y al mismo tiempo la antítesis de una poesía intelectualista: la poesía es pensamiento, y el pensamiento sólo es a través de un lenguaje muy concreto, denominado poético.

El mundo cuando sueña no constituye, cronológicamente hablando, la primera obra poética compuesta por su autor; pero sí es aquélla donde una voz decididamente propia se abre paso y comienza su diálogo con el tiempo y desde luego consigo misma. Su autor, David Martínez Romero, periodista, realizador y escritor de origen español cuya trayectoria profesional ha estado ligada a los medios de comunicación y la producción audiovisual, nos ofrece aquí por primera vez uno de sus trabajos poéticos, nacidos de una voluntad inquebrantable de reintegrar a la Poesía su fuerza transfiguradora y su primacía como instrumento de conocimiento para el hombre.
